My name is Nicole, and I’m a procrastinator.
If there is some way of doing something with minimal effort at the lastest possible time, I will find a way to do it. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t affect me at work, just in my personal life. It is also a particularly nasty habit to break. Over the last few months I’ve realised that for every excuse you come up with, you have to find more than one way to destroy it.
Everytime I think of a negative, everytime I pick out a well worn excuse, I read these questions to myself:
Terrified of working out in public/ Can’t afford a gym member ship?
Put aside $10-25 per week and hit up Target, amart sports, k-mart and Big W they have an awesome range of exercise equipment for under $30 each, then search for related workouts on YouTube.
It’s it too wet/cold/hot to go for a walk?
Buy a $20 aerobic step (Target Aust. Max weight limit 250kg)
Is it too cold/wet/hot to go for a bike ride?
Buy an exercise bike (you can pick them up at a reasonable price second hand, all you need is patience)
Don’t have enough time?
- 10 minutes of aerobics (YouTube) – 6:30am
- 2-5 x 15 squats 10am (morning tea)
- 10 minutes kettle bell workout (YouTube) – 12noon (lunchtime)
- 10 minutes Dumbbells workout (YouTube) – 5:30pm ( do this while you are making dinner)
Congratulations you completed 30-40 minutes of exercise today. Now do this 5-6 times a week
Now I know this could get very boring very quickly, that’s why libraries are so valuable. Any good library would stock Women’s Fitness magazines, they have a really great selection of workouts every month, and all you have to do is photocopy the pages and keep them stashed in a display folder, ready for when you want to shake things up!
Destroying my bad habits is a slow process and it is by no means easy, it will be a lifelong fight, but it will be one that is worth it in the end.
